Griffin Pedestal Sculpture
CreArt : Griffin Pedestal Sculpture
The griffin (also spelt gryphon, griffon or gryphin) is a legendary creature with the body of a lion and the head of an eagle with the addition of prominent ears. The female has the wings of an eagle. The male (known as a keythong) has projecting spikes instead of wings and is less frequently depicted. In the artwork of ancient Persia, as well as in the artwork of other parts of the ancient world from Scythia to Macedonia and Greece, the Griffin has special place (see below
two sculptures of griffins from Persepolis and Susa).

Laughing Buddha
Hotei or Bu-Dai is better known as the obese Laughing Buddha. He has become incorporated into Buddhist & Shinto culture and is based on an eccentric Chinese Chan (Zen) monk. His image graces many temples, restaurants, and amulets. Hotei has become a deity of contentment and abundance, Taoist in origin and persists in Japanese folklore as one of the seven happy gods, or shichi fukujin. The Laughing Buddha derives from the time of the Liang Dynasty in China. Hotei is theorized to have begun as a real Buddhist monk in China over 1,000 years ago. Made of cast stone, hand finished with
antique finished.
